GROW ROOM HYGIENE:
By: Sean Calahan | Mar. 5, 2016
Ask any grower how to prevent pests and disease and they will tell you, “You just have to be cleaner!” Well, that and you must control your humidity. And they are definitely telling the truth: Nothing can ruin your crop like laziness, carelessness, and filthiness. A tainted set of clones, a brush against your dog, even a guest checking out your garden all have the potential to cause a catastrophic loss if you are unaware or unprepared.
First things first, start clean.
Always wash your hands before working in the garden and wear a clean set of clothes upon entry. Make sure to ask guests if they have been around infected plants and to wash their hands as well. Wear disposable gloves and change your gloves between rooms. Start with a clean environment and you will have a great foundation for your grow.
Next, stay clean.
Remove all dead or infected plant material from your grow immediately. Decaying plants are a great host for fungus and pests. Wipe up all spills and messes promptly. Disinfect your rooms between crops, disinfect areas that have been infected as necessary, and make sure you clean your grow medium well between uses.
Finally, be proactive:
Quarantine clones and teens that come in to your grow from a third party. It’s worth the extra work and time to save your crop from an infected batch of clones you picked up from that dispensary.
When making your own clones, only take cuttings from healthy plants. A plant that has been infected has a compromised immune system and will only be more susceptible to disease.
Implement an all-natural treatment regimen to prevent pests and fungus. Rinsing the plant with clean water every 5 days is a great start, and if you are suffering from an infection you can consult with your grow supply store for organic solutions for foliar preventatives.

Have fun and happy growing!
